When your water heater stops doing its one job, everything in the house grinds to a halt. Showers run cold, dishes pile up, and laundry sits unwashed. Frosty's Elite Water Heater Service repairs traditional tank and tankless units across Northern Utah, from Cache Valley down to Utah County, and we are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Because our four person team works on water heaters only, we arrive with the parts that actually fail on these units: heating elements, thermostats, thermocouples, gas control valves, pilot assemblies, and pressure relief valves. We are not general plumbers squeezing a water heater call in between sewer jobs. This is all we do, every day, all year.

Our goal on every repair is simple: figure out what failed, explain it in plain language, and tell you honestly whether a repair makes sense or whether the unit has reached the end of its useful life. We will never push a repair onto a tank that is about to fail somewhere else.

Signs You Need Water Heater Repair

  • No hot water at all, or water that never gets more than lukewarm
  • Hot water runs out after just a few minutes instead of lasting the whole shower
  • The pilot light keeps going out or will not relight on a gas unit
  • Loud rumbling, popping, or knocking sounds when the burner or element fires
  • Water pooling around the base of the tank or dripping from the top fittings
  • The T&P (temperature and pressure) relief valve will not stop weeping
  • Rusty, brown, or discolored hot water, or a rotten egg smell from the hot tap
  • A gas control valve that clicks but never actually opens to light the burner

What We Do During a Water Heater Repair

Every repair starts with a real diagnostic, not a guess. Here is how we work through a typical service call:

  1. 1

    Listen to the symptoms

We start by asking exactly what you are seeing and when it started. The pattern of the problem often points straight to the failed component before we even touch the unit.

  2. 2

    Inspect the whole unit

We check the power supply or gas supply, test the heating elements or burner assembly, read the thermostats, and examine the T&P valve and dip tube. A single symptom can have more than one cause, so we test before we recommend.

  3. 3

    Pinpoint the failed part

Using meters and pressure checks, we isolate the exact component that quit. On electric tanks that is usually an element or a thermostat. On gas tanks it is often the thermocouple, pilot assembly, or gas control valve.

  4. 4

    Explain what we found

We show you what failed and why, in plain language, before any work begins. You will understand the cause and the fix before we pick up a wrench.

  5. 5

    Repair with the right part

We carry the common failure parts on the truck, so most repairs are completed in a single visit. We replace only what failed, using components matched to your unit.

  6. 6

    Test and confirm

We fire the unit, confirm it reaches temperature, check for leaks, and verify the T&P valve and thermostat are working before we pack up.

What to Expect When You Call

  • A real person answers the phone, day or night. We do not use an answering service that takes a message.
  • We ask a few quick questions about your unit and symptoms so the technician arrives prepared.
  • You get a clear, honest read on the problem and a straightforward recommendation, with no pressure to approve work you do not need.
  • If a repair makes sense, we do it. If the unit is too far gone, we tell you plainly and talk through replacement options.

Water Heater Repair Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if my water heater can be repaired or needs to be replaced?+
A repair usually makes sense when the tank itself is sound and a single component has failed, like a heating element, thermostat, thermocouple, or gas valve. Replacement becomes the better call when the tank is leaking, the unit is well past a typical lifespan, or major parts are failing one after another. We will give you a straight answer after we see it.
Why does my gas water heater pilot light keep going out?+
The most common cause is a worn or dirty thermocouple that can no longer tell the gas valve the pilot is lit, so the valve shuts off as a safety measure. A blocked flame arrestor, a drafty vent, or a failing gas control valve can also cause it. We test each of these to find the real culprit.
What causes an electric water heater to stop heating?+
On an electric tank it is usually a tripped breaker, a burnt upper or lower heating element, or a failed thermostat. The upper element and upper thermostat control the top of the tank, while the lower pair handles the rest, so a failed lower element often shows up as running out of hot water quickly.
My T&P valve is dripping. Is that a repair or an emergency?+
A dripping temperature and pressure relief valve can mean the valve itself is failing, or it can point to excess pressure from thermal expansion. Because the T&P valve is a safety device, we take it seriously. We test the valve and the system pressure to find out whether it is a simple valve swap or a sign of a bigger pressure problem.
Can you repair a water heater that is leaking from the bottom?+
If the steel tank itself is leaking from the bottom, the internal glass lining has failed and the tank cannot be safely patched. That is a replacement, not a repair. If the leak is coming from a fitting, valve, or pipe on top of the unit, that can often be repaired. We will tell you which one it is.
Do you repair both gas and electric water heaters?+
Yes. Our team repairs gas and electric tank water heaters as well as tankless units. We carry elements, thermostats, thermocouples, pilot assemblies, and gas control valves so most tank repairs are done in one visit.
How fast can someone get here for a repair in Northern Utah?+
We are open 24/7 and dispatched from Riverdale. When you call, we will give you an honest arrival window based on where you are and what else we have in motion that day.
